NikNak

London-raised and Leeds-based, first became intrigued by sound in primary school, making beats after school using software downloaded from the backs of gaming packets. That early obsession never left her. She now holds a Master's degree in Electronic and Computer Music, and has grown into one of the most compelling and wide-ranging artists working in UK electronic music today.

Described as a 'musical polymath' by Clash Magazine, NikNak is a multi-disciplinary artist whose roles span DJing, turntablism, composing, sound design, sound art, radio presenting, and podcasting. She made history as the first Black turntablist to win the Oram Award in 2020, a prestigious prize celebrating innovative work in new music technology, and has been recognised as one of DJ Mag's Ones to Watch.
As a DJ, her taste is as vast as it is carefully curated. When mixing, NikNak seamlessly merges dubstep, hip hop, drum 'n' bass, and garage, while her own music takes a more ambient and poignant route, raw, experimental, eerie, and at times cinematic. Her debut album Bashi explored concepts of peace through sounds recorded during a trip to Turkey, and her most recent album Ireti, released via Accidental Records, leans into Afrofuturism, exploring the intersection of humanity and technology, with narrative crossovers with iconic dystopian films and video games like Blade Runner and Cyberpunk 2077.

NikNak has performed at Berghain, Glastonbury, Outlook, Dimensions, and festivals in Belgium and Argentina, and has shared stages with Grandmaster Flash, Mr Scruff, Craig Charles, and Jamz Supanova. She has also collaborated with 4DSound and Monom Studios in Amsterdam, further developing her expertise in immersive and spatial turntablism, a practice that feels as limitless as her imagination.
