Jake Mehew

Jake Mehew is a composer, performer, producer, DJ, and radio presenter based in Leeds, UK, whose work brings together the principles of free improvisation with the technological considerations of the avant-garde. He performs with a modular synthesizer of his own design, delivering ambient, immersive, and cathartic sonic experiences that are procedural, ritualistic, and generative in nature.

His live performances are underpinned by years of studying the conditions for flow that state of deep, spontaneous creativity, and his sets carry a certain sense of danger with them, as if everything could unravel at any moment, whole universes of sound seemingly conjured through a self-induced act of trance. Drawing on polyrhythms, timbre, and repetition, he creates sonic landscapes that invoke sensations of ecstasy and flow in his audiences.
In August 2020, Jake earned the prestigious Sage Gateshead Summer Artist Residency, embarking on an intense week of artistic seclusion to craft a 55-minute record with no preconceived ideas, this became his debut LP Sage, released on ATA Records in September 2022. A modern and contemporary take on the spiritual jazz record, the album captures raw, one-take improvised performances, blending electro-acoustic music, jazz, and contemporary classical sounds into something immediate and deeply alive.

He has performed at venues and festivals including MONOM in Berlin, Houghton Festival, Superbooth, and La Cheetah, sharing stages with artists such as Suzanne Ciani, Alessandro Cortini, and Higher Intelligence Agency. spectralplex He has also been awarded a residency with Britten Pears Arts and is receiving mentorship through the Help Musicians Co-Pilot scheme, cementing his place as one of the UK's most compelling and forward-thinking electronic artists.
